We do it through realistic scenarios, not lectures. A student or a team works through a difficult choice, sees what happens and reflects on it. Then they do it again. Judgment gets built by repetition, the same way any other skill does.

Brain Bites Group was founded by Fredrick Short, but the idea behind it was born more than thirty years ago, when it happened to him.

He had finished his degree and thought he had made it. He had done everything right. Then real life showed up fast and he remembers thinking he wished someone had prepared him for all of these decisions. His professors had been excellent at teaching him right and wrong answers. They drilled the information in, tested him on it and moved on. But no one ever gave him a safe space to practice making decisions, to understand the weight of a choice before it started costing him something. That gap was not in his transcript, but he felt it every day.

He spent the next three decades in management and corporate roles across consumer goods, government solutions, industrial manufacturing and consulting. That is where the gap stopped being his own problem. He watched capable people freeze, or move too fast, or defend a decision long after it had stopped being defensible. The cost was never a missed shot.

Alongside all of it he spent 23 years coaching basketball and doing individual skills training. That is where the gap became a method. A composed player is rarely someone who was simply born calm. They are someone who practiced the same read so many times that pressure stopped changing the outcome. Over those years Fredrick watched it happen again and again. He was not just teaching kids what to do, he was giving them a place to practice the decision before it counted, until the right call became second nature.

The same gap he had felt after college is everywhere once you start looking. People are expected to make high-stakes decisions under pressure and then mostly left to learn by trial and error in real situations, where a wrong call costs far more than a missed shot. The approach that worked on the court was the answer, it had just never been built into something anyone could use.

Brain Bites Group is that thing. It takes the coaching approach Fredrick spent a career refining and turns it into structured practice for the decisions that matter most. It is the safe space to practice he wished he had thirty years ago.

He raised his own children the same way, working the choice through with them instead of handing them the answer.
